Yip, we’re back in New Jack City…

I can’t believe it’s been 6 weeks since my last post. I jest not when I say it feels like just last week! Down the tubes go my promises to write regularly “no matter what”…

They call life in Jozi ‘death by rat race’ – let me tell you, it ain’t no understatement!

Between the frantic school run, Northern suburbs peak hour traffic, 12 hour work days (and often weekends too), cooking, homework, endless projects and finally, a five minute catch up with my girls while having a slurp of my well deserved vino…Add to that, an exhausting hour long night time phonecall from my boss…I’m struggling to catch my breath in this madness! One forgets so quickly what life is like in a big city, especially after experiencing nearly 2 years in a seaside town where peak hour is the sum of 5 cars travelling at 40km an hour…

So here we are, finally getting settled in our new (doll’s house) Jozi home, hanging curtains and trying to find a home for everything in an area that’s less than half of what we filled before; the image that comes to mind is that of female part vs size of baby that needs to fit through said female part…an almost impossible task!

Nevertheless, we are in. And it’s all ours. OUR HOME. Finally. After 7 months of living like a trio of nomads…Followed by a further 2 weeks of moving in, minus furniture and personal possessions (and that, my friends, is worthy of an entire post on its own…)

Wow, does this feel good! It’s amazing the little luxuries (the basics to most) we take so for granted. A sink to wash dishes, a cupboard EACH to house our clothes, a lounge to relax in…

May my girls and I never forget what going without feels like… May we appreciate the beauty in the chaos (and what exquisite beauty we are blessed with, just look at the sunrise from our shower!)

And may we savour the relief and overwhelming gratitude that there really is a silver lining…

Yip, we’re back in New Jack City…
